 A luxury Automobile Manufactured 

From 1903 to 1912, 

A Popular Vehicle. 

Started By Two Brothers, 

That Were Excited About Their Rides.

First In Grand Rapids, Michigan, 

A Move Holyoke, Massachusetts  In 1905. 

To Accommodate  The Supply Issue

  from 1906 Moved To

 in a purpose-built factory in Forty Fort, 

Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. 

Loads Of Jumping Around.

Moving Where The Suppliers

 Were , As The Main Reason. 

There Was A Problem With Shipping. 

Which Caused A Large Amount Of Cars 

To Stored In Safety. 

By 1913, The Money Ran Dry. 

The Bank Seized Some Of The Inventory, 

Selling Them As A Discounted Item. 

Which Did Not Help. 

1914 The Factory Was Closed. 

WWI Had Started And The Factory

Was Turn Into A Multi-Purpose Space.

The Company Had History And

A Running Total, That 100 Sixes and 800 Fours 

Had Been Produced All-Together. 

The Brothers joined

 Owen Magnetic Motor Car Company.

They Stayed In The Industry For Many Years.

From Rail Companies. 

The Mechanical Development Of The Machine, 

 Took Ten Years And The First Pieces.

 Prototypes Were Built By Oskar Barnack.

In 1913, Working A Balance Of Exposure.

Using 35mm Film As The Stock Frame Base. 

Sized To 24 × 36mm With A 2:3 Aspect Ratio, 

Instead Of The 18 × 24 mm Of Cinema Cameras.

Intended For Landscape Photography.

The Captures Of People Were Complicated.

31 Spec Cameras Were Produced For Testing,

In 1923 For Factory And Outside Photographers.

A Consumer Version Was Built In 1924 

And Sold To The First Customers In 1925.

With The Focal Plane Shutter, 

Which Has A Range From 1/20 to 1/500 Second, 

In An Addition To A Z For Zeit (Time) Position.

The 1930's Brought Improvements To Sizing 

And Lens Capability.

The Company Had Always Had Progressive Labor Policies.

 Which Encouraged The Retention Of Skilled Workers, 

Many Of Whom Were Jewish. 

Ernst Leitz II, Who Began Managing The Company In 1920,  

Responded To The Election Of Hitler In 1933. 

By Helping Jews To Leave Germany,

 Representing "Assigning Job Titles And Providing Safe Passage"

To Hundreds (Even If They Were Not Actually Employees), 

To Overseas Sales Offices, Where They Were Helped To Find Jobs. 

 The Effort Intensified After Kristallnacht In 1938, 

Until The Borders Were Closed In September 1939.

 The Extent Of What Came To Be Known As The

 "Leica Freedom Train" . 

A Little Known Secret Kept Hushed, 

 Even After The Conflict. 

The 1950's Saw Small Changes And The Spread, 

Of Factories Around The World.

Single-Lens Reflex Cameras From 1964, 

Leica Produced A Series Of Single-Lens Reflex Cameras, 

Beginning With The Leicaflex, Followed By the Leicaflex Models.

 Then The R Series From R3 To R7, 

Made In Collaboration With The Minolta Corporation.

A Full Redesign Of The R8.
